Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) are a plant that has many benefits for human life. Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) from Gowa district are empirically used by the community as a treatment for fever and wounds. Papaya leaf extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids and saponins. The levels of compounds contained in papaya leaves can vary. This difference is influenced by several factors, namely internal factors such as genes and external factors such as temperature, light, humidity, pH and altitude. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of papaya leaf ethanol extract in inhibiting staphpylococcus aureus bacteria. The extraction method used was maceration with 70% ethanol solvent and evaporated using a rotary evaporator. The antibacterial effectiveness test used the disk diffusion method with extract concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30%. The positive control used was chloramphenicol and 10% DMSO as a negative control. The results of the antibacterial effectiveness test showed that papaya leaf extract was effective in inhibiting staphylococcus aureus with respective inhibition zone diameters of 10.56 mm, 12.05 mm, 12.76 mm and 11.53 mm for chloramphenicol. The results of the pairwise comparisons analysis test showed that the concentration with the control group was not significantly different.
